The first thing do is to stop using their credit cards. Use cash for all purchases. Make a lot of research. Go to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling here: http://www.nfcc.org/ can help you find a qualified counselor debt management (not a rip off site) that will help you decide if bankruptcy is the right for you. Councilor debt management can also set up a program for 5 years to get out of debt, if you qualify. Avoid scams management I want debt default on their credit cards. CCCS is a nationwide network of counselors who can give you tips on how to get out of debt. Be careful here, however, they want to cut all your cards and pay all your debt in 5 years (that is, by law – have no choice if you go to a debt management with them), but are of good reputation. Personally, I have spoken with a CCCS counselor – and although I have chosen my own path, much of the information I was given (free) has been useful in my chart a path toward a future free of debt.
