Michael Your Questions About How To Get A School Loan From The Government

Michael asks…

How do I receive more money from a school-certified loan?

I usually get few loans a year to pay for my college and expenses. I get a government loan to cover tuition. At the same time I get a private (school certified) chase loan. From chase I ask for about 5000 a semester to cover my expenses. The problem is that once chase sends my application to my school, they lower the amount to about 2300. I usually end up borrowing money from the family. How to I get the full amount i request? Do I talk to chase or the school? and what do I say?

Thank you for your answer in advance…

Joe answers:

Talk to the school’s financial aid office. If it’s a certified loan, Chase can’t give you more money than your financial aid office approves. At my school, if a student has a lot of expenses, we can do a budget increase with the proper documentation – copies of bills, cancelled checks, etc. Your school will need documentation of what your expenses are, and even then it’s up to their own judgment. Make sure you show them that you know how much debt you’re in, what your payments will be after graduation, and just show an overall maturity. Beyond that, it’s mostly a matter of getting the proper documentation to put in your file to show an auditor why they let you borrow more money than the typical student.

Donna Your Questions About How To Get A School Loan From The Government

Donna asks…

Who gets their money first School loans or ?

Child support? My husband is still paying back child support for his 16yrs old .As soon as she graduates highschool it stops and still have a balance owed. . But he has defaulted school loans from the government this year .
Anyone have this issues and how to resolve this ?
We do get a income tax return presently, child support takes that money.
GOD BLESS and Thanks

Joe answers:

It depends I guess where you live. I don’t know but my husband had to pay child support till the daughter turned 18, and had to go to court on behind payment and make arrangements to continute until paid. School loans will probably come after child support. You need to get a legal opinion perhaps.
